Vet Varsity Organizes Study Tour for Interns

October 4 Expiring at: November 3

A study tour of intern students was organized by Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education (VAHEE), Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana. The interns visited the adopted villages of GADVASU in Mehal Kalan Block of District Barnala under ICAR funded Farmer FIRST Project of the University. It was planned under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education, Nodal Officer of the Project and Dr. S K Kansal, Principal Investigator of the Project.

It was coordinated by Dr. Y.S. Jadoun and Dr. Ravdeep Singh of Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education. The budding veterinarians interacted with the farmers and visited the demonstration units of the beneficiaries started under the project. The interns were made aware of various input services, interventions and extension activities implemented by the project team of the University in the operational area. Beneficiary families interacted with the students and showed their keen interest about various courses of the University and being encouraged to send their wards to various academic programs of the Varsity. During this visit, students learned a lot about the field level extension activities and in reciprocation the farmers were also being motivated to provide the best education to their wards as well.

Subsequently in another tour, interns visited to KVK, Barnala under the supervision and guidance of Dr. R.K. Sharma, Prof-cum-Head, Department of Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education.

Dr P. S. Tanwar, Associate Director, KVK Barnala gave a brief presentation about mandates, objectives and functioning of KVK and various extension activities, input services and programs conducted by KVKs for the farming community. Thereafter, students visited various labs of Home Science, Horticulture, Soil & Water Testing and Animal Science lab developed by the KVK Barnala.  

Afterwards students witnessed various demonstration units of Nursery, Vermi-composting, Goat farming, Fish farming, Backyard poultry farming, Egg hatching, Mini-sprinkler system, Bee-keeping, Automatic weather station, Orchard and Custom-hiring center developed by KVK Barnala for the farmers. It was a complete capsule of practical knowledge about the outreach activities to the students.
