Training Programme on Scientific Mushroom Cultivation organized at KVK Tarn Taran

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran organized one week training programme on ‘Scientific Mushroom Cultivation’ at its Campus. Twenty farmers and farm women from different villages of district Tarn Taran participated in training programme. Scientific knowledge on various aspects of mushroom farming was devised for skill development and self entrepreneurship of farmers. In inaugural session of the training, Dr Balwinder Kumar Associate Director (T), KVK Tarn Taran welcomed the trainee and emphasized upon the development of skill of the rural youth of the district for earning more returns from different subsidiary agricultural ventures such as mushroom farming. Such type of skill development trainings helps farmers, farm women and rural youths in developing the agricultural entrepreneurship. Mushroom farming is gaining momentum in state and can be a good mean for earning profit.

Dr Anil Kumar, Course Coordinator provided insight to the trainees through lectures on production techniques of button, paddy straw, dhingri, milky mushroom, etc. The composting, spawning, casing and harvesting techniques were discussed in detail. The nutritional, medicinal and value addition aspect of mushroom were discussed by Dr Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon. Dr Parminder Kaur, FASC, Punjab Agricultural University, Tarn Taran elaborated in detail about the identification of various pest & diseases in mushroom and their management options. Dr Jaswinder Bhatia, an expert from Khalsa College, Amritsar discussed about the marketing of the mushroom. The cultivation of different types of mushroom was also telecasted through you-tube videos. An exposure visit to commercial mushroom farm (GS Mushroom) at village Gurali, Makhu (Ferozepur) was conducted to learn the practical aspect of mushroom farming. Dr Anil Kumar thanked all the beneficiaries and resource persons for their cooperation and making this training programme a success.
