September 1 Expiring at: October 1

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran organized awareness programme on Crop Residue Management under the project  'Promotion of Agricultural Mechanization for in-situ Management of Crop Residue' at it campus. 42 farmers from different villages of district attended the programme. Dr Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director, KVK Tarn Taran appealed the farmers for not burning paddy straw as it causes bad impact on environment by releasing harmful gases. He stressed that with the use of machinery such as Happy seeder, Super Seeder, Mulcher, MB plough, paddy straw can be managed without burning in the field. Straw could also be utilised as livestock feed, it will also reduce expenditure on feeding cost in farm animals. Paddy straw can be fed to the livestock in the form of fermented paddy straw, paddy silage and as paddy pallets. Dr. Anil Kumar stressed that many micro-nutrients and organic matter get lost by paddy straw burning. Beside those beneficial microbes in the soil also lost due to burning. Incorporation of crop residue also reduces dependence on costly fertilizer inputs. Happy Seeder was displayed and literature on crop residue management was distributed to the farmers. Farmers thanked KVK for organizing camp on crop residue management.
