KVK Mohali conducted In-service Training Programme on “The Insecticides Act”

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) organized one day in-service training programme in collaboration with Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Mohali on “The Insecticides Act” for Agricuture Development Officers (ADO’s) and Extension Officers of District Mohali. During this event Dr. Parminder Singh; Associate Director KVK highlighted the importance of this legislation during import, manufacture, sale, transport and use of insecticides. He also informed that Punjab tops in the indiscriminate use of pesticides among other states in India and here ADOs & Extension Officers have an important role to play by creating awareness among the farmers to stop overuse of pesticides. Moreover, there should be strict vigil to stop the sale of spurious insecticides in the market. Training in charge, Dr Harmeet Kaur delivered a lecture on legislative control under pest management. She provided detailed information on various methods of Plant Quarantine. She also shared the information regarding objectives of the Insecticides Act. During this event, Ms Sridevi Tutika, Scientific Officer from National Institute of Plant Health Management (NIPHM), Hyderabad delivered detailed lecture on this act. The Insecticides Act, 1968 covers 38 sections and 46 rules. She shared important information on these sections and rules. She also mentioned that Pesticide Management Bill 2020 has already introduced in Rajya Sabha, which seeks to regulate the manufacture, import, sale, storage, distribution, use and disposal of pesticides in order to ensure availability of safe pesticides, minimizing risk to humans, animals and the environment. Dr.  Navjot Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) delivered a virtual lecture on good agricultural practices in paddy crop during this programme. While giving the presidential remarks, the Chief Guest of the event, Dr. R. K. Raheja, Chief Agricultural Officer, Mohali thanked the KVK faculty for organizing this training programme and mentioned his desire to conduct surprise checking at different dealers of the District.  A discussion session was also conducted where answers of different queries regarding evaluation of active chemical ingredients, precautions, methods of use were discussed. Dr. Gurdial Singh, ADO thanked the chief guest, KVK faculty for the informative training session and the participants for attending the session.
