Krishi Vigyan Kendra S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) organizes one week vocational training programme on "Scientific Kitchen Gardening and Processing of Vegetables" at Village Kansala, District Mohali under the NABARD sponsored project on "Promotion of kitchen gardening" under the guidance of Dr. Parminder Singh, Associate Director (Training). Twenty farmers and farm women participated in above mentioned training programme.
This training was coordinated by Principle Investigator (PI) of Project, Dr. Munish Sharma, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) and Co-PI Dr. Parul Gupta, Assistant Professor (Home Science). Dr Munish Sharma delivered lectures on layout and maintenance of kitchen gardens, cultivation practices of vegetables, nursery raising and organic farming. Dr. Shashipal, Assistant Professor-Livestock production delivered lectures on importance and methods of preparation of vermi compost, importance of farmyard manure and compost in kitchen gardening. Co PI of project, Dr Harmeet Kaur, Assistant Professor-Plant Protection delivered lecture on eco-friendly and organic management of insect pest and diseases in vegetables. She also stressed on use of trap crops, use of pheromone, light, water and sticky traps for control of insects.
Dr Parminder Singh, Associate Director (Training) highlighted importance of vegetables in human diet and encouraged farmers and farm women to adopt kitchen gardening near their household. Dr Parul Gupta, Assistant Professor (Home Science) delivered lectures on value addition, processing and post harvest management of vegetables. She also demonstrated various recipes to trainees. Visits were made to demonstration field and literature was also distributed during this training.
