Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran celebrated WORLD WATER DAY with great zeal to raise the awareness of the global water crisis, and to support 'Sustainable Development Goal (SDG):6, Water and Sanitation for all by 2030'. This year, the theme of World Water Day 2021 was 'Valuing Water'. On the occasion of the 28th World Water Day, KVK Tarn Taran organized workshop on “Water use efficiency and appropriate crop”. This workshop was attended by about 35 participants. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director, KVK Tarn Taran inaugurated the workshop and delivered lecture on the importance of World Water Day. World Water Day, held on 22 March every year since 1993, is an annual United Nations Observance focusing on the importance of freshwater. It is said that "Jal hi jeevan hai" which means life is the other name for water. Indeed, without water, we would cease to exist. Earth is 71% per cent water and our bodies contain 60% water. Water is thus, vital for life on the planet.
Dr. Gurmeet Singh, DES Entomology, FASC, Amritsar awared farmers about water saving agricultural technologies like laser leveling, drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation, DSR, Happy Seeder etc. which are potentially important to conserve groundwater. Farmers were also made aware about integrated farming system in which they could use the water efficiently. Along with this they were advised few tips on water utilization in cropping, dairy and horticultural crops. During the workshop Dr. Anil, Assistant professor (Soil Science), KVK Tarn Taran also delivered lecture on natural resource management. Farmers thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and they pledged to use water judiciously and not to waste a single drop of water.
