Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana inaugurated scientific Bee Keeping Mini Mision-1 under National Bee Keeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) at KVK Tarn Taran. The mission was announced as part of the Atam Nirbhar Bharat scheme by Government of India which will achieve the goal of ‘Sweet Revolution’ in the country. 50 farmers along with officers from state department, sarpanches and students also participated in the programme. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director welcomed all the participants in the programme. The Vice Chancellor said that Govt. of India has approved a new Central Sector Scheme and awared the farmers regarding importance of beekeeping as part of the Integrated Farming System in the state. The main objective of this mission is to promote holistic growth of beekeeping industry for income & employment generation for farm and non-farm households. Further Dr. Singh discussed about the medicinal value of honey. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, said that honey mission will increase income for the rural youth and will improve the farmers livelihood. He emphasized on setting up of beekeeping as subsidiary business apart from the rearing of livestock. He urged the farmers to formulate FPOs, Self help groups regarding beekeeping mission. Under this project, KVK will organize 5 one week vocational training programme and will train the rural youth. Youths urged to contact KVK Booh for getting training on beekeeping. In the event.
