Vocational Training Programme on “Scientific Goat farming” at KVK Tarn Taran

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran organised a one-week Vocational Training Programme on “Scientific Goat farming” in collaboration with Department of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Tarn Taran. A total number of 25 farmers from different villages of the district Tarn Taran enrolled in this training programme. Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU  addressed the farmers to adopt goat farming as a subsidiary enterprise with meager capital investment. He further guided the farmers regarding the breeding techniques as per the recommendations provided by the university. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Booh, Tarn Taran shared the importance of goat farming for resource poor people in rural areas.  Dr. Kumar also talked about the different activities of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran for socio economic upliftment of the farming community. He further discussed about feed and fodder management for goats. Dr. Suresh Kumar, Assistant professor, Livestock Production and course coordinator delivered knowledge about breeds, reproductive management of goats and also made the trainees aware regarding different types of diseases and their possible treatment. He further, elaborated about the lay out plans for goat faming and guided the farmers about importance of vaccination in goats. Dr. Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon, Assistant Professor, Home Science explained the nutritive value of goat milk and its therapeutic importance to the trainees. Dr. Suresh Kumar imparted awareness regarding economic evaluation of goat farming by demonstrating the procedure involved in record keeping. To sum up the above-mentioned training course, Dr. Balwinder Kumar presented his sincere thanks to the Vice Chancellor and all the participants for sparing their valuable time to make this training a great success.
