Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran organized an awareness camp and field day on ‘Micronutrient Management in Happy/Super seeder sown wheat' at village Bhagupur Havelian. About 50 farmers of village Bhagupur, Sangwan & Kirtowal attended the programme. In inaugural address, Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director, KVK, Tarn Taran welcomed all the farmers and said that micronutrient deficiency in soil and crop produce has become a matter of serious concern at present time. He awared the farmers regarding zinc nutrition in crops, humans and livestock. Use of intensive cropping system, high analyzing fertilizers and imbalanced fertilization is causing micronutrient deficiencies in the soils and plants. Biofortification of grains and fodder crops is right approach to enrich these with different micronutrients for meeting the demand of nutrients. Tarn Taran district soils are deficient in Zn and Sulpher which affect the productivity of grain & fodder crops. Experts from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Dr. S.S. Dhaliwal, Principal Soil Chemist revealed strategies to mitigate the micronutrient deficiency in crops, vegetables & horticulture crops. Dr. Vivek Sharma discussed the symptoms appeared in plants due to Zn & S deficiency and its managemental aspects. Farmers were advised to keep Zn fortified wheat for their own consumption for their family members so that enough Zn is met from it. Dr. Balwinder Kumar told that even straw of wheat gets also improved in Zn content after biofortification and thus helping livestock to meet their some demand of zinc. Later all the farmers and experts visited happy seeder and super seeder sown wheat and compared two methods. Zinc sulphate was distributed to the farmers for biofortifying grain of wheat.
