Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran celebrated "World Pulses Day, 2021" at its camps. The theme of celebration of this day was "Nutritious Seeds for a Sustainable Future.” The United Nation in collaboration with Food Agriculture Organization (FAO) designated February 10th of every year to be celebrated as International Day of Pulses. Officials from Department of Agriculture, Tarn Tarn and Project Directorate ATMA, Sh. Vikram Sood also participated in the programme. A total number of 25 farmers and farm women attended this programme. The aim of this day was to spread the benefits of not only eating pulses, but also growing pulses. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Tarn Taran welcomed all the participants and awared about the nutritional and environmental benefits of pulses as part of sustainable food production system.  Dr. Kumar said that legume and pulses are source of healthy diet for human and livestock as these are considered as powerful super foods due to good source of protein, micronutrients (Zn & Fe), minerals & B-Vitamins. Further, pulses replenish urea and minerals in soil and helps in avoiding climate change. Intercropping with pulses increases farm biodiversity and creates a more diverse landscape for animals & insects. Project Directorate, ATMA said that pulses are important for weight loss and their fiber, protein, and other nutritious contents encourage healthy heart, and other bodily functions, including fat burning. In the end Dr. Balwinder Kumar urged farmers to spread awareness of the health benefits of pulses in your neighborhood and social network.
