KVK Tarn Taran organizes an awareness workshop cum On-Farm Trial on assessment of hemoglobin status of adolescent girls

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran organized an awareness workshop entitled "Impact of iron rich foods on hemoglobin status of adolescent girls" at Government Senior Secondary School, Village Gaggobua, District Tarn Taran . During this event, a total number of 50 adolescent girls students from 9th to 12th standards participated. Initiating the technical session, Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director welcomed all the participants and described about current scenario of anemic status of women in the district which is of high concern for future mothers with regard to their obstetric outcomes. Co-ordinating the programme, Dr. Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon, Assistant Professor, Home Science interacted with the girl students and motivated them to take a step forward in maintenance of appropriate hemoglobin level by following dietary recommendations given by Indian Council of Medical Research. Blood samples for assessment of hemoglobin status were also taken from all participants. The event was conducted with collaborative efforts of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran, School Administration and Community Health Centre, Kasel, Dr. Jatinder Kaur and other staff members. Dr. Dhillon elicited the information on socio-demographic status and other factors affecting the development and persistence of anemia from each girl student and based on the individual record, she enlightened the girls about diverse array of strategies to curb the menace of anemia in young girls. Dr. Balwinder Kumar highlighted about the training facilities provided by the university to the beneficiaries. Dr. Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon presented  vote of thanks to the school administration and its Staff, laboratory technicians and girls students for sparing their valuable time to make the programme a grand success.
