KVK Tarn Taran organizes training programme on Scientific Goat farming

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran organized 5 days Vocational Training Programme on “Scientific Goat farming for self-

employment” under Rastriya Krishi Vikas Yojna Scheme. A total number of 25 farmers from different villages of the district Tarn Taran attended this training programme. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Booh, Tarn Taran welcomed the farmers in this programme and highlighted the importance of goat farming for resource poor people in rural areas.  Dr. Kumar also talked about the different activities of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran for socio economic upliftment of the farming community. Dr. Suresh Kumar Assistant Professor, (Animal Science) discussed with trainees about the breeds and reproductive management of goats in detail. He, further, demonstrated the scientific techniques of goat rearing through different models. Dr. Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon, Assistant Professor, Home Science explained the nutritive value of goat milk and meat. She also enlightened the trainees about the various value addition techniques to develop curd, cheese, khoa and meat recipes. Dr. Mandeep Singla, Assistant Professor (Livestock Production Management) elaborated about the lay out plans for goat faming. Dr. Neetu Saini, Assistant Professor (Veterinary Medicine) guided the farmers about importance of vaccination in goats and she also made the trainees aware regarding different types of diseases and their possible treatments. Dr. Sumit Singhal, Assistant Professor (Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics) delivered lecture about artificial insemination and abortion in goats. Dr. Suresh Kumar imparted awareness regarding economic evaluation of goat farming by demonstrating the procedure involved in record keeping. To sum up the above-mentioned training course, Dr. Kumar presented his sincere thanks to experts and all the participants.
