GADVASU Sensitizes school students about animal-agriculture role in daily life

Directorate of Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, hold an E-Seminar on the occasion of Agriculture Education Day for school students on. A total of 67 students from three different schools viz; Tagore Public School, Agar Nagar, Ludhiana, Government Senior Secondary School Rajewal-Kulewal and Government Senior Secondary School Ghunghrali-Sikhan participated in this seminar. Dr. Prakash Singh Brar, Director Extension Education, GADVASU, revealed that this day is celebrated on the initiative of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, to sensitize the students about the importance of agriculture and livestock in our daily life. Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare decided to celebrate "Agriculture Education Day" through various Agriculture and Veterinary Universities of the country. The objective of celebrating this day is to strengthen education in the country and attract talented students in agriculture and allied sciences. 

Dr. R K Sharma, prof-cum-head, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, GADVASU, welcomed all the students and staff of the schools and briefed about various professional courses offered by GADVASU in veterinary sciences, fishery sciences and dairy technology. He also apprised the students about entrepreneurship and employment opportunities for the young talented school pass-out students in these streams. In continuation, Dr. S K Kansal, Professor, briefed about importance of agriculture and allied sciences as agriculture is linked with food and nutritional security of the people of our country. Further, Dr. Kansal also informed about various utility services and extension activities of the University for various categories of entrepreneurs and stakeholders involved in livestock value chain. Students interacted with the experts of the University and clarified their queries and doubts. Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Associate Professor coordinated the E-seminar and proposed vote of thanks.
