KVK Booh organizes Block Level Camp on Crop Residue Management

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran organized Block Level Agriculture Camp on Crop Residue Management under a project on "Promotion of Agricultural Mechanization and Machinery for In- situ Management of Crop Residue" at village Chutala, Tarn Taran. Approximately 90 farmers from nearby villages attended programme. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director, KVK Tarn Tarn Taran told the farmers not to burn paddy straw as it will cause bad effect on environment. He stressed that with the use of machinery such as Happy seeder, Super Seeder, Mulcher, MB plough paddy straw can be managed without burning in the field. He also said that KVK, Tarn Taran will do full efforts to educate the farmers for scientific management of crop residue in the district. Further he also stressed the importance of In-situ paddy straw management among the farmers for enhancing the soil fertility. Straw can be used as livestock feed as feeding straw can reduce expenditure on feeding cost in farm animals. Various University products such as mineral mixture, uromin lick, bypass fat and milk testing kit etc. were exhibited and sold to the farmers. Live demonstration of different machinery was displayed and literature related to residue burning was also distributed to the farmers. Dr. Anil Kumar informed that many micro-nutrients and organic matter gets lost by paddy straw burning. IFFCO officials also participated in the camp and told about judicious fertilizer use. Farmers who have managed crop residue in scientific way were honoured in this camp. Village sarpanch Sh. Mehar Singh and other persons from village like Mahinder Singh, Pargat Singh, Baljinder Singh, Jassa Singh, Gursimran Singh and Tarsem Singh, thanked KVK for organizing camp in their village.
