Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran organized two 5 days training programmes on ‘New Techniques for in-situ crop residue management’ under the project on ‘Promotion of Agricultural Mechanization for in- situ Management of Crop Residue’ from 21.09.2020 to 25.09.2020 and 28.09.2020 to 02.10.2020 at its campus, Booh. The 50 farmers of adopted village Bhagupur Havelian and Sangwan participated in above training programmes. Dr Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (T), KVK, Tarn Taran welcomed all the farmers of the village and briefed about the project on crop residue management funded by ICAR, New Delhi. He told that KVK Tarn Taran has adopted two villages for paddy straw management. Demonstrations using happy seeder, mulcher, MB plough, Rotavator, etc. will be laid out for sowing wheat without burning of paddy straw. Dr. Anil Kumar, Assistant Professor (Soil Science) at KVK and course coordinator of this training gave emphasis on sowing of wheat with happy seeder in standing paddy stubble field harvested with Super SMS loaded combine. He also enlightened the importance of in-situ crop residue management in maintaining soil fertility and also discussed about nutrient and water management in wheat either sown by happy seeder methods. Dr Nirmal Singh discussed about the various implements available for the cultivation of pea and potato in the fields without burning of paddy straw. Dr Parminder Kaur, District Extension Specialist at Farm Advisory Service Centre, Punjab Agricultural University, Tarn Taran, Dr Navot S Brar, Agronomist, KVK Mohali and Dr Bhupinder Singh, ADO Patti also aware the farmers on different aspects of crop residue management including different machinery to manage paddy straw, weed, insect-pest and disease management in wheat. All the farmers assured that they will disseminate message for not burning paddy straw to every farmer and will put their whole effort for residue management.
