Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran celebrated National Nutrition Month from 01.09.2020 to 30.09.2020 at its campus and
different villages of district Tarn Taran. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (Training) inaugurated the month long series of events. Dr. Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon, KVK Scientist co-ordinated the program. Ten farmers and farm women were demonstrated with establishment of nutri garden at KVK campus. Online webinar entitled ‘Best Practices and Success Stories of Nutrition Campaign’ organized by Government of India was also attended by Dr. Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon. Mobile advisory was also promulgated to Anganwadi workers and farm community. Sh. Harminder Singh Gill, MLA, Patti, District Tarn Taran visited KVK Booh and planted trees on 7 September, 2020 for the better environment and emphasized role of plants/trees in human life. Another online webinar entitled ‘Poshan Abhiyan’ organized by Government of India was also attended by Dr. Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon. Nutrition awareness program focused on appropriate dietary lifestyle was also organized at village Sangwan. 42 Anganwadi workers, farm women and farmers participated during this event. Mrs. Baljeet Kaur, Child Development Project Officer, Patti, Tarn Taran also delivered a lecture on household remedies to cure day to day afflictions faced by women. A "Kisan Sabha" was ogranised on distribution of Moringa plant among the farmers. Deputy Director highlighted dietary utilization of Moringa and its products. An awareness workshop entitled "Ensuring Nutritional Status of Women and Children" was organized in collaboration with IFFCO, Tarn Taran. In this workshop, IFFCO Officers and KVK Scientists, Anganwadi Supervisor, Anganwadi Workers, farm women and farmers participated and interacted with panel of experts for amelioration of their nutritional status. Dr. Balwinder Kumar highlighted the significance of adequate nutritional status in women and children and emphasized for use of biofortified wheat and rice for household consumption. Further, KVK officials along with IFFCO official, Tarn Taran distributed vegetable seed kits supplied by Government of India to the beneficiaries. Lectures regarding common nutrient deficiencies among women and children were delivered. Participants were requested to established nutri garden at their home to curtail nutritional deficiencies. Literature on Food Guide Pyramid, eat right plate (Nutri Thali), model of nutrigarden and biofortified varieties of food commodities were distributed to the participants. Nutrigarden developed at KVK Campus has also been shown to the participants. Online webinar on "Micronutrient deficiencies among women and children" was organized in which 27 Anganwadi workers and farm women and farmers participated. Online webinar entitled "Role of Balance Nutrition in Mitigating Malnutrition" organized by ICAR, ATARI, Ludhiana was attended by Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Dr. Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon and Mrs. Baljeet Kaur along with 15 Anganwadi workers. To recapitulate, the programme was summed up by motivating 264 individuals of district Tarn Taran to ensure the nutritional status through consuming locally available traditional foods.
