KVK, Mohali organized a webinar on the theme ‘Scientific Poultry-cum-Fish Farming’. This webinar was specifically organized
for the farmers of the region to encourage them to adopt integrated farming practices to enhance their farm’s income. Farmers from various districts of Punjab and adjoining Haryana state participated in this virtual program. Dr. Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director (KVK, Mohali) in his inaugural address described the current status of the poultry and fisheries sector in the country and their contribution to the agriculture and national GDP. He described the concept of integrated farming and its increasing importance in the current scenario. Dr. Vikas Phulia (Assistant Professor, Fisheries), the coordinator of this program provided the knowledge covering various management measures to be followed while integrating chicken or duck with fish farming. He also narrated a success story of a progressive poultry-cum-fish farmer Sh. Rajkapoor Dalla (village Sekhan Majra, Distt. Mohali) and encouraged the participants to adopt a similar model to get the maximum output from the unit area. Dr. Shashi Pal (Assistant Professor, LP) imparted knowledge on the scientific practices to be adopted during poultry farming. He stressed upon farm feed formulation, nutrition, and health management of poultry birds. The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Vikas Phulia.
