GADVASU honours farmers with C M awards at Pashu Palan Mela

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana conferred on Chief Minister’s award to four livestock farmers of the state. In the ongoing Pashu Palan Mela of Vet .Varsity Dr. V.K. Taneja Vice Chancellor conferred on these awards to progressive farmers. Dr. Ranjodhan Singh Sahota, Director of extension education said that GADVASU is making all out efforts for the development of the livestock sector in the state by strengthening its extension programmes. The University has established various associations of the farmers for different livestock professions. The university holds regular monthly meetings of these associations and organizes technical seminars for the transfer of technologies. These efforts have made good impact in improving productivity of dairy, fishery, goat, piggery and poultry farming. In order to motivate various categories of livestock farmers the university organizes innovative competitions by assessing the extent and impact of adoption of these technologies in improving the productivity profitability of different livestock farming system. In this response university received a number of applications. A committee of experts including Deans and Directors visited the livestock farmers who participated in the competitions and evaluated the total farming system.

After final decision university announced the names of winners in different categories. In the cattle category Sh.Jagdeep Singh S/O S. Natha Singh VPO Aasal Distt. Ferozepur won the award. He started dairy farming in year 2001 with single buffalo now he has 277 animals and effective 110 cattle are producing about 15 quintal milk daily. He had established a milking parlour, ultra modern shed and bulk milk chiller. While adopting eco friendly measures he is producing Bio Gas from his farm waste. In Poultry category , Sh. Raghuvir Chand S/O Sh.Pars Ram of Tapa Mandi Distt. Barnala won the award. He started Poultry farming in year 1984 with 3000 birds. Now he has 90,000 birds and 50,000 thousand chicks. His farm is fully automated. Very clean and hygienic environment of the farm gives a state of art look. He produced quality feed from his own feed mill. Another farmer named S. Dalvir Singh Kang S/O Kuldeep Singh Kang Vill. Shamaspur Distt.Luddhiana also bagged the award in poultry category. He started the  profession in 2001. Now he has 2 Lacs birds and 50,000 chicks. He had established his own feed mill and bio gas plant. The water supply system of farm is completely underground for judicious use of water. The fourth award was bagged by Sh. Gamdeen S/O Sh. Jamaldeen Vill. Bhutta Distt. Fatehgarh Sahib in Goat category. He started his ancestral profession with 10 Goats 32 years ago. Now he has 41 Goats. Many of his Goats are prize winning in livestock championships. These awards carry cash amount, plaque ,shawl and citation.

Dr V.K. Taneja awarded these honours in an impressive function. He said that creation of these awards will help in motivating cattle, buffalo, fish, poultry, piggery and goat farmers to learn and adopt the latest technologies and practices of animal farming and the awardees will also serve as models for other farmers who want to adopt animal farming.
