Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) organized a five days training program under the guidance of Deputy Director, Dr. Yashwant Singh at village Rattangarh (Simbal) on advanced techniques of in situ paddy straw management. On this occasion, Dr. Yashwant Singh appealed farmers not to burn the paddy straw and suggested mixing it in the field so that the fertility of the land could be increased. Training In-charges, Dr. Munish Sharma and Dr. Parul Gupta, Assistant Professors (Horticulture and Home Science) emphasized on the role of paddy straw as mulching in horticultural crops and shared knowledge on use of paddy straw for decoration and beautiful packing material for different products. Dr. Harmeet Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant protection) delivered lecture on insect-pest and rodent management in paddy and wheat. Dr. Shashipal, Assistant Professor (LP) delivered lecture on use of paddy straw in livestock. Dr Vikas Phulia, Assistant Professor (Fisheries) delivered lecture on harmful effect of paddy residue burning on human health, animal health and environment. He also stressed upon the integration of fisheries with other farming systems. Dr. Priyanka Suryavanshi, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) from KVK, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) provided information on latest machinery and its working for management of Crop Residue. On the last day of training programme an exposure visit was conducted to Dera Bassi for attending Block level Kisan Mela to learn about various techniques of residue management and to see exhibition & machinery related to them. The farmers of the village thanked the KVK team for this training program and promised KVK faculty to cooperate in this project.
