Chairman, Punjab Health Systems Corporation, visits KVK, Tarn Taran

Sh. Amardeep Singh Cheema, Chairman, Punjab Health Systems Corporation, Government of Punjab visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran. He interacted with faculty and staff and visited various demonstration Units at KVK. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director KVK Tarn Taran apprised him about the various vocational & skill training programmes and other extension activities being organized by KVK for Tarn Taran district farmers and rural youth. Diversification promotion in agricultural crops and adoption of the allied sector especially livestock among the rural youth is need of the hour to inculcate the skill development and entrepreneurship, he said. Experience of farmers, trained by KVK who have started own ventures in livestock sector such as piggery, goat farming and fishery in Tarn Taran district was enlightened to him. He took keen interest in soil and water quality analysis parameters evaluated by KVK in district Tarn Taran and suggested for various remedial measures for irrigation and drinking water available at different depths. He sought suggestions from the Tarn Taran district farmers regarding super straw management system fitting on combine harvester for harvesting the paddy, so that timely action for its effective implementation can be taken by the government. He said that he will take up the matter with government for timely supply of Happy Seeder to the farmers to bring considerable area under wheat sowing by this machine to trim down pollution in the environment. He congratulated the KVK for making two villages in Tarn Taran district completely crop residue burn free last year and also winning national level Swachhta Award among 700 KVKs across the country. Further, he also congratulated KVK associated farmer S. Gurbachan Singh and S. Narinder Singh for being honoured at national level by Government of India in managing crop residue and leading campaign against burning the paddy straw in many villages.
