Vocational training programme on “Scientific Poultry Farming” by KVK Mohali

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, SAS Nagar (Mohali) of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Ludhiana organized One week vocational training on “Scientific Poultry Farming” from 11-18 June 2019 at its campus located in the Model Town, Kurali. Under the guidance and active involvement of Dr Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director, K.V.K, Mohali, A total of seventeen farmers and youth took part in this training programme. Dr. Singh motivated farmers/youths for adopting poultry farming as an allied activity along with agriculture for proper utilization of resources and maximizing the profit per unit area. He also informed trainees regarding various facilities provided by K.V.K and Veterinary University, Ludhiana. He delivered his lecture on comfortable housing management of different categories of poultry. Dr Shashi Pal, Assistant Professor, Livestock Production (Training Coordinator) gave detailed lecture and practical exposure on various breeds of poultry, feeding management of different category of poultry, record keeping, diseases of poultry, economics of poultry production. Dr Parul Gupta, Assistant Professor (Home Sci.) gave lecture on value addition of eggs, their products and nutritional aspects of eggs. Dr Munish Sharma, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) gave lecture on integration poultry farming with horticulture. Dr Vikas Phulia, Assistant Professor (Fisheries) briefed trainees about integration of poultry farming with aquaculture. During this training programme, an exposure visit was also arranged for participants to Central poultry Development Organization (CPDO), Chandigarh for practical exposure on various aspects of poultry production Dr Priyank Yadav and Dr Rohit Agrawal demonstrated the activities of poultry farm and hatchery unit of CPDO. Dr Kamna Barkataki, Director, CPDO Chandigarh, interacted with them and ensured to provide the germplasm at nominal rate. She assured that CPDO will co-operate KVK faculty in future also for organizing such programmes on poultry production. All participants thanked KVK faculty for conducting such an excellent and interactive training programme.
