KVK, BARNALA ORGANISES 5 DAYS ORNAMENTAL FISH FARMING TRAINING

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Handiaya district Barnala of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana has organised a five days training programme on “Ornamental fish breeding, culture, trade and aquarium services” in guidance of Dr. Prahalad Singh Tanwar, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Barnala. A total 23 rural youth from 10 villages of Barnala and Bathinda districts were participated in this training programme. Dr. P.S Tanwar said that rural youth may adopt ornamental fish farming as entrepreneur and may earn income for their livelihood. He also explained that  farmers, farm women and youth may get other skill oriented  trainings from KVK, Barnala in field of Dairy, poultry, piggery, Goat, agriculture, horticulture and value addition of milk and agriculture produce.

Sh. Khushvir Singh, Assistant Professor (Fisheries) explained about identification of different types of ornamental fishes, their rearing technology, breeding of egg layer and live bearer fishes, preparation of fish feed and feeding management, various diseases and their control, fabrication, decoration and management of fish aquarium in detailed. More emphasis was given on practical aspects of the Ornamental fish culture, breeding and aquarium fabrication. Dr. Kamaldeep Singh matharu, Assistant Professor (Plant protection) told about protection measures of ornamental aquatic plants in different season of the year.

An exposure visit was also arranged at College of Fisheries (GADVASU), Ludhiana for propagation of aquarium plants as well as to demonstrate the breeding technologies of egg layers and live bearer of ornamental fishes with the help of Dr. Sachin Onkar Khairnar, Assistant Scientist (Fisheries) in guidance of Dr. Asha Dhawan, Dean, College of Fisheries (GADVASU), Ludhiana.

Dr. Harish Kumar Verma, Director Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana  explained about the diversification through livestock farming and motivated the trainees to adopt the Ornamental fish culture, breeding and aquarium fabrication as a source of self -employment.
