Veterinary Varsity KVK organizes

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized one day district level Kisan Mela at KVK campus to create mass awareness among the farmers regarding latest techniques in agriculture, veterinary and allied sciences. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director of KVK informed that around 1200 farmers and farm women’s from the district Tarn Taran and surrounding areas visited the Mela. Dr. JPS Gill, Director of Research, GADVASU, Ludhiana was chief guest whereas Dr. HK Verma, Director, Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana was guest of honor. Dr. Gill inaugurated the Kisan Mela. Different in line agriculture departments, Dairy Development Board, ATMA, KVK from other districts, Farmers Advisory Service Scheme, PAU, Health Department of Punjab, colleges of GADVASU and different companies displayed various stalls of agricultural and livestock production, seeds of various crops, fertilizers and equipments in the Mela. Students from various schools and colleges also visited the Mela and get acquainted with the latest techniques in agriculture and dairy sciences. Farmers and self help groups trained by KVK also displayed their produce such as handicraft, mushrooms, honey, vegetables and fruit saplings at this Mela. Dr. Gill while addressing the farmers, stressed upon for adopting the scientific techniques in agriculture and livestock production for getting more remuneration from these ventures.

Dr. H K Verma extended gratitude to all the dignitaries and elaborated in detail about the activities of Kendra for the benefit of the farmers. He also highlighted about various technologies and useful inputs given by the university to the farmers for better livestock production. Dr. Balwinder Kumar told farmers about the importance of integrated farming for getting regular income from various enterprises. A Kisan Gosthi was also organized. Dr. Hari Ram, Dr. Parminder Singh, Dr. Joginder Singh, Dr. Navjot Singh Brar and Dr. Rajan Bhatt shared information on various agricultural and livestock issues. Pamphlets related to scientific fodder production, silage, poultry and carp fish farming were also released on this occasion for the benefit of farming community. Progressive farmers from the district were also honored. Mineral mixture, bypass fat, uromin lick, seeds, other scientific inputs and extension literature was available in the show.
