VETERINARY-PATHOLOGY

The Department provides consultation services to the farmers on various diseases, regarding important clinical diagnostic tests of various body fluids, about corrective and remedial measures to check disease outbreaks at the farms, by disseminating knowledge in the form of popular articles and by publishing relevant material in the vernacular dailies. The training programmes for field veterinarian are also held for keeping them abreast with the latest diagnostic approaches being in practice. To keep the farmers updated, exhibits and blow up of various diseases is displayed at Pashu Palan melas. Information about important emerging diseases is imparted through various TV channels and Radio talks.

Organizing International Conference and symposium

The Department of Veterinary Pathology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized the XXVI Annual conference of Indian Association of Veterinary Pathologists with core theme on ‘Diagnostic Pathology’ and an International Symposium on ‘Philosophy of Disease Diagnosis Thru Morphological to Bimolecular Approaches’ and a Satellite Seminar on ‘Advanced Descriptive Techniques- Ultra structure, Cytology and Immuno-histochemistry’, from October 28-30th, 2009 at Ludhiana.

The International IAVP conference was hosted for the first time at Ludhiana in which, about 300 delegates from all across India and about 15 delegates from USA, Canada, UK, Italy, Sudan, Iran and Bhutan participated. Dr. Bruce Williams, an eminent pathologist and President of CL DAVIS DVM foundation, USA as well as a distinguished faculty member of Armed Force Institute of Pathology, USA delivered the lectures. Besides lectures were delivered by Dr. Suresh Muthupalani, from highly rated institute of USA, i.e. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. Another Key speaker from prestigious medical Institute UK, Dr. Malcom Alison delivered a lecture on highly specialized and recent topic ‘Stem cell in Health Disease and Cancer’. Speakers from Italy viz. Dr. Leonardi leonardi and Dr. Monica presented topics on comparison between cancers of Dogs , cats and humans. In addition, lead papers on Protein misfolding diseases and mycotic diseases in animals and human were delivered. Four speakers viz. Dr. Pritam Sahota , Head of pathology, Novartis, USA, Dr. K.S. Pandher, Senior Pathologist in Pfizer, USA, Dr. S.Y.H, Qadri Veterinary Pathologist, Scientist, Pathology Division, National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR), Hyderabad and Dr. M.C. Prasad from Jai Research foundation delivered lectures.

Organized Continuing education programmes as per VCI Curriculum on Diagnosis of rabies, Clinical pathology and Necropsy practices.
