Department of Dairy Economics and Business Management is one of the five departments of the College of Dairy & Food Science Technology, GADVASU, Ludhiana. The mandate of the Department is to offer all courses related to Economics, Statistics, Management, Extension and Communication etc. to the students of B. Tech. (Dairy Technology) programme and M.Sc. as well as Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics (Animal Husbandry) and PG course of Livestock Business Management to M.VSc. (LPM) students; generate data regarding various aspects of livestock sector in the state and providing policy inputs. The major objective of PG and Ph.D. programmes in the department is to produce trained human resource to meet the technical manpower requirement of dairy/livestock economist in government departments, private organizations/companies and R &D organizations. So far, four batches of post graduate students have passed out from the department and students are well placed in industrial/field jobs. Department has very competent faculty who have presented their research work at various national conferences and workshops. Various research projects has been undertaken by the department in the areas of cost of milk production and its regular monitoring in Punjab, existing status of food safety measures at dairy farms, comparative economic analysis of cross bred and indigenous cattle, economic analysis of milk processing etc. The department has also conducted a field survey on fat and SNF of cross bred cattle in Punjab which has become a base for revising the fat and SNF standards by the government. Besides the department also undertakes research activities in the goat, pig and poultry farming.
