The Department of Aquaculture, established in 2008, has proficient faculty and is well equipped with teaching, research, extension and experiential learning/skill development facilities spread over a farm area of about 6 ha. The department has played a significant role in development of aquaculture sector in respect to inland saline water aquaculture, diversification, aquaculture nutrition, brood stock management and breeding, overwintering technologies, ornamental fisheries, climate change resilience and waste water management in special reference to village/community ponds. In view of climate change and global warming concerns, the department has also initiated work on water and land saving intensive aquaculture technologies like aquaponics, recirculatory aquaculture system (RAS) and bio-floc aquaculture system (BFAS), with a dedicated ‘Aquaculture Information Centre’ for consultancy and capacity building of various stakeholders to promote entrepreneurship, in special reference to aspiring youth and fishery professionals.
