Brief Introduction :

Dr. Jaspal Singh Hundal joined as Head, Department of Animal Nutrition, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, on March 11, 2025. Dr. J.S. Hundal also serves as the Coordinator of Research for the university as an additional responsibility He completed his graduation and post-graduation from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, in 1999 and 2001, respectively, followed by Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition from Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, in 2011.
With over 22 years of distinguished academic and research expertise, Dr Hundal has mentored 33 M.V.Sc. and Ph.D. scholars as a major or co-guide. Dr. Hundal, a well-known researcher in the field of animal nutrition, has served as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI in 25 research projects and published 112 high-impact research articles in national and international journals. His innovative contributions include a published patent on ‘Rice Straw-Based Complete Feed Pellets for Ruminants’ and the development of pivotal technologies, including: ‘Mineral Mixture for Swine’, ‘Fish Specific Mineral Mixture,' 'Three Area-Specific Mineral Mixtures for the Central, South-West, and Kandi Zones of Punjab,’ and the ‘Calf Starter Technology.’ Dr. Hundal is also an accomplished author, having written three textbooks for undergraduate and postgraduate students, namely ‘Basics of Animal Nutrition,’ ‘Animal Nutrition Made Easy,’ and ‘Ruminant Clinical Nutrition.’ He has further enriched the academic and scientific community with 25 book chapters, 10 practical teaching manuals, and an extensive array of extension literature, including 211 publications, three extension books, 10 training compendiums, and 11 informative bulletins or folders. His outreach efforts include creating 10 technical videos, delivering 48 radio and TV talks, and presenting 347 expert lectures directly to farmers. He has also coordinated 89 livestock trainings and played a key role in establishing the university’s ‘Farmers Information Centre,’ exemplifying his commitment to knowledge dissemination and farmer empowerment.
Dr. Hundal’ s contributions have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Best Teacher Award (2024), Best Researcher Award (2023), Best Extension Scientist Award (2019), the Drool’s Best Nutritionist Award (2018, ISACP), Distinguished Alumnus Award (2019), Partnership Excellence Award (2013, NABARD) etc. In addition, he has received five Appreciation Awards, 13 Best Paper/Poster Awards, three Student Best Thesis Awards, and 11 letters of appreciation from various institutions. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Dr. Hundal is a Fellow of Animal Nutrition Association, Associate Fellow of the National Academy of Veterinary Sciences, the National Academy of Dairy Sciences, and the Animal Nutrition Society of India. Dr. Hundal’s dedication to research, education, and community service is a testament to his exemplary career and unwavering commitment to advancing the field of Animal Nutrition.
