Aquaculture
AQUACULTURE

  • Aquaculture development in inland salt affected under/un productive  areas of south west districts (Fazilka, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Bathida and Mansa)
    1. Fresh water carp culture in low saline areas (<5 ppt) - Economic return: 1.0-1.25/ha/yr
    2. Vannamei shrimp Culture in high saline areas (10-25 ppt) - Economic return : 7.5 -10 lakh/ha/crop of 100-120 days
    3. Brood stock development and breeding of common carp in inland saline water up to 5ppt salinity
    4. fresh water prawn and murrel culture in inland saline waters
  • Diversification - Species and culture system diversification for higher productivity
    1. Pangas catfish (Pangasianodon hypothalamus) culture with 3 times higher productivity and 2.5 times higher profit per unit area as compared to traditional carp culture practices
    2. Successful brood stock production under agro-climatic conditions of the state through poly-house overwintering and in-situ overwintering in earthen ponds
    3. Successful induced breeding of pangas catfish for the first time in northwest region of the country.
    4. Fresh water prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) culture - Monoculture & poly-culture with fresh water carps
    5. Induced breeding of catfishes - Heteropneustes fossilis (Singhi) and Clarias batrachus (Indian magur), without sacrificing males
    6. Natural breeding of murrels under simulated natural environment
    7. Introduction of new species - Kalbasu, Amur carp and Tilapia (GIFT)
    8. Pond Cage Aquaculture - Rearing of high values food/ornamental fish in cages in deep fresh water carp production ponds (suitable water surplus areas)
  • Aquaculture Nutrition
    • Herbal supplements and nutraceuticals for enhancing growth, immunity and reproductive potential- Garlic, Ashwagandha, Amla, ginger Aloe vera, turmeric, neem, moringa, castor etc.
    • Low cost feed formulation with regionally available nutritive non-conventional feed resources-        Duckweeds (Spirodela and lemna), Azolla, Eichhornia, pressmud, molasses etc.
    • Live food culture
  • Ornamental fisheries
Package and practices for brood stock development, captive breeding and larval rearing of ornamental             fishes for quality seed production under climatic conditions of the state
    • Egg layer - gold fish & koi carp
    • Live bearing - platy, molly, swordtail, zebra fish, rosy barb
  • Integrated fish farming
Fish cum duck farming model for regional  - 40-50% saving on input cost for fish rearing and 50-60% higher            income from sale of fish, duck eggs and meat
  • Bioremediation of waste water (recycling/recuse)
Duckweed based bioremediation technology for recycling of dairy shed waste water for aquaculture -         Recycling of treated water in aquaculture and utilization  harvested duckweed biomass for fish feeding in         fresh and dry form)
  • Azolla Culture Technology
Improved Azolla culture technology high protein aqua-fodder production for livestock fish & ducks
