The Department of Microbial and Environmental Biotechnology is one of the three departments of the College of Animal Biotechnology. The department focuses mainly on teaching, research, and extension in various facets of microbiology and biotechnology. The mandate of the department is to develop new tools and applications of available methods for the diagnosis, prophylaxis, and control of infectious and non-infectious diseases of domestic animals and poultry. The current research interest of the department is directed toward the development of diagnostics, and new-generation vaccines against tumors, and bacterial and viral diseases of livestock, poultry, and companion animals. The faculty of the department is having higher qualifications or specialized training abroad or at premier institutes in the country. Several extramural projects funded by various national agencies have been completed by this department.
