Brief Introduction :

Dr. Vaneet InderKaur, Scientist (Fisheries) is holding the Charge of Head, Department of Fish Processing Technology since December 11, 2017. During 13 years of her professionalcareer, she had been actively involved in teaching, research, extension and administrativeactivities. She has guided 05 M.F.Sc. students and presently 01 M.F.Sc. and 03Ph.D. students are working under her guidance. She is teaching over 15 UG/PGcourses for the last 10 years. She has handled three earned research projects asPI and Co-I including 1 UGC and 2 ICAR. She has also worked as Co-I under ICAR’sprestigious Niche Area of Excellence Project entitled “Inland Aquaculture inPunjab”, besides 2 RKVY projects as PI. She has made significant researchcontributions in developing Culture, Breeding and Seed Production Technologiesfor Ornamental Fish in the region,developed low cost grow out diets byutilizing locally available non-conventional feed resources like duckweeds forsemi-intensive carp poly culture, standardization of culture and breedingtechnologies for indigenous catfish species. The developed technologies havealso been successfully demonstrated/transferred and adopted at farm levels.Presently, under RKVY project “Optimizing culture and breeding technology forair breathing, high value fish striped murrel, Channa striatus (Bloch.)”, she is focusing on developing culture and breeding technology for highvalue saul fish under climatic conditions of Punjab. She is also working ondeveloping herbal (turmeric, ginger etc.) based fish feeds for enhanced fishgrowth and health status. Besides publishing quality research papers (32) in referredjournals, she has other publications to her credit including book/book chapters(03), technical/extension booklets/articles/pamphlets (45), and teaching/trainingmanuals (03). She is also looking after the demonstration farm of College ofFisheries as Farm Manager. Being an active extension worker, she is Chairperson,Extension Committee, College of Fisheries and Technical co-ordinator of InnovativeFish Farmers Association (IFFA), Punjab, conducted Training programmes (09), deliveredTV/radio talks (40), conducted Farmer Meets (30) besides active participationin workshops, Pashu Palan Melas, Demonstrations, Invited lectures, On/offcampus Consultancy assignments, Farm visits etc. She has also conducted 04compulsory, 15 days educational tours of UG (B.F.Sc.) students, besidesproviding regular guidance and inputs for grooming them for extra-curricularactivities. She has also 01 edited book to her credit on “Best Management Practicesfor Freshwater Ornamental Fish Production”, published during 2016 by NationalFisheries Development Board, Hyderabad. Recognizing her professional merits, shewas selected and attended 2 months training Programme on “Nutraceuticals” at GhentUniversity, Belgium sponsored by NAIP (ICAR), New Delhi in year 2014. She was conferredwith “Promising Lady Fisheries Scientist”award by Vets Club, GADVASU, Ludhiana during April29, 2017 and “Best Teacher Award” & “Best Extension Worker Award”for the year 2017-18 by GADVASU, Ludhiana. She is life member of professional societies,referee of National/International journals and also member of Executive Councilof Indian Ecological Society as Joint Secretary-cum-Treasurer.
