S. Laljit Singh Bhullar, Cabinet Minister visits Veterinary University

S. Laljit Singh Bhullar, Cabinet Minister, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development and Transport Department paid a maiden visit to Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. On this occasion, Sh. Gurpreet Singh Gogi, MLA also accompanied him. During this visit, he announced an increase in the internship allowance for students pursuing Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry degrees. He expressed the hope that the students will work for the larger interests of livestock farmers after completing their studies.

This allowance has now been enhanced from Rs. 6200 to 15000. On this occasion Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the University said that the University is constantly striving for the interest of students and farmers. Our students are our present and future, therefore, we took immediate action on their demand, and the University administration has initiated this issue, for which full support has also been extended by the Punjab government.

S. Bhullar said that we should make more efforts for animal breed improvement. He said that by strengthening the University's Krishhi Vigiyan Kendras and Regional Research and Training Centres, we can provide better services to the farmers of the state. He Encouraged to work more diligently for the improvement of the Murrah buffalo breed so that indigenous breeds can be encouraged. Motivating the students, he said that God has given them responsibility to serve in a very noble profession, so they should work hard for the betterment of livestock. 

He also flagged off the newly ambulatory service bus by the university. Through this ambulatory bus, services will be provided to the surrounding villages. On this occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said that livestock occupations are growing at an annual rate of 8 percent while the growth rate in agriculture GDP is 3.4 percent, so our responsibility increases a lot for the upliftment of these occupations. He said that the university is trying to get more production by improving the breed of animals and is working to increase the profit of farmers by processing milk and livestock products.

A Visit of the Multi-Specialty Veterinary Hospital was also arranged for S. Bhullar and the dignitaries accompanying him where they were enlightened about the state of the art facilities provided by the university for the treatment of animals such as Dialysis unit, Diagnosis techniques and other services. An exhibition of the services and products of the university was also held in which he showed his good interest and encouraged the colleges to make more and new products.

A meeting with University officials in the presence of Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor was also held in which he appreciated the efforts being made for the betterment of the livestock occupations and asked them to formulate new policies to uplift the farming community.
