Remembering Guru Angad Dev Ji, Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle (GGSSC), unit of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana organized a "Mega Blood Donation Camp" in collaboration with DMC & Hospital, Ludhiana. More than 100 units of blood were donated by students, faculty members and staff of various colleges of the University. It's Pertinent to mention that girls outnumbered students in donating blood.
Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor inaugurated the blood donation camp. He said that the true message of Guru Angad Dev Ji of serving the society has been spread with this blood donation camp as it is the noblest way of serving mankind beyond barriers of religion, caste and creed. Most important aspect is that there is no alternative to blood in case of need. He expressed his views that donation of blood is another kind of "SEWA" which caters to the needy persons in critical emergencies. He praised all the participants who donated blood voluntarily. While encouraging the efforts by Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, he suggested that such blood donation camps should be a regular event annually to inculcate a sense of true service to the society.
Dr. Satyavan Rampal, Director Students' Welfare of the University established blood donors as the real heroes, as they play a key role in helping people in need. Dr. Tejinder Singh Rai, President and Dr. Jaspal Singh Hundal, Gen. Secretary of GGSS circle, GADVASU Unit, encouraged the youth to participate in large numbers and emphasized that the youth's energy should be utilized in positive manner and donating blood is the best way to pay back to the society.
Mr. Jashandeep Singh, student convener of GGSSC told that the need based blood donation is also a regular feature in Vet varsity and every year, GADVASU students donate approximately 450 units to different hospitals. The blood was collected by the team of DMC&H, Ludhiana staff led by Dr. Kaveri. She highlighted that blood donation refreshes the body system to synthesize new RBCs, reduces risk of heart attack and liver ailments, lowers cholesterol and even slows down ageing and more importantly people come to know of any kind of prevalent disease in the body. Office bearers of Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle and officers of the University were also present on the occasion.
