Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran organized programme on the topic "Capacity Building and Awareness Generation onCombating Environmental Pollution by Biomass Burning and improving livelihood by promoting circulatory rural economy". This event was graced by Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana as Chief Guest. The guest of honors for this event were Dr. Rajbir Singh Brar, Director, ICAR ATARI, Zone-I, PAU campus, Ludhiana, Dr. J.S. Samra, Senior Advisor (Renewable Energy Programme) CRRID, Chandigarh and Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana. About 300 farmers participated in this event.
Vice Chancellor addressed the farmers that instead of burning the crop 
residues, it should be used in different ways such as cattle feed, compost manure, biomass energy generation, mushroom cultivation, packing materials, making paper and bio-ethanol generation. Crop residues fires can significantly impair the soil quality, animal and human health. The stubble can also be used as bedding material for animals in winters, which saves them from cold. Dr. Parkash Singh Brar said that farmers should adopt livestock ventures for enhancing their income substantially. Feeding with paddy straw in livestock can curtail expenses incurred on feed material.
Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director, KVK Tarn Taran welcomed all and highlighted the harms of crop residue burning and how to successfully manage the crop residues with machines. KVK Tarn Taran has done exemplary work and made 8 villages in the district burning free in the last few years.
Dr. Rajbir Singh told farmers that with the implementation of GoI sponsored scheme “Promotion of Agricultural Mechanization for In-situ Management of Crop Residues, KVKs along with agriculture department has successfully curtailed the residue burning incidents in the state. KVKs are in forefront for educating and motivating farmers for adopting conservation agriculture practices for stopping the pollution.
Dr. J.S Samra, from Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development (CRRID), Chandigarh said that the paddy stubble can be managed in various ways with scientific techniques which in turn will also boost the rural economy. He said that farmers should choose best method as per their easiness for managing the crop. Sh. Jatinder Singh a progressive farmer from village Mundapind said that with the guidance of KVK, he has purchased various crop residue management machines and he is managing the 500 acres of his and adjoining village's land for sowing of wheat with happy seeder and super seeder.
Publications for the awareness of the farmers were released by the dignitaries. Various Self Help Groups and progressive farmers were also honored by chief guest and other dignitaries. The Vice Chancellor and Director, ATARI along with other dignitaries lauded the efforts of KVK for creating awareness among the farmers for not burning the crop residues. They also congratulated KVK staff for getting best KVK award among KVKs of Punjab recently.
