To commemorate the 50 years of glorious journey, Alumni Association of College of Veterinary Science, Guru Angad dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized an alumni meet which was attended by more than 350 veterinarians. Dr K K Baxi, Chief Guest and former, Dean of the college while sharing his experiences highlighted the recognition of the College at International level and congratulated faculty and alumni for elevation of the college to top Veterinary University of the country. Dr H.P.S Kochhar, Guest of Honour and presently Assistant Deputy Minister, Immigration, Refugee, Citizen, Canada acknowledge role of the college in providing him good foundation and underlined the role of quality education in life. Dr G.S. Chahal, former Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry shared the struggle they did in establishment of the college and for upliftment of veterinary profession.
Dr Parkash Singh Brar, Dean, of the College and President, Alumni Association in welcome address highlighted that importance of such a meet. He emphasized on need to strengthen the Alumni association and requested senior alumni to guide new students to excel in diverse areas. He also thanked Indian Council of Agricultural Research for their initiative to financially support such meets under Institutional Development Plan. Dr H.K. Verma, Director Extension Education cum Secretary, Alumni Association gave detailed insight about alumni, its functioning along with role of Veterinarians in the society and functioning of GADVASU along with ‘Multitier Extension Approach” of university to reaching farmers. Dr Verma specially thanked Dr Inderjeet Singh, Director, Animal Husbandry Department, Punjab for his support for this meet cum technical seminar.
Dr TP Saini, Dr KB Singh, Dr Parmjeet Singh, senior most alumni of the college highlighted the chronology of establishment of College of Veterinary Science in Ludhiana after bifurcation of Punjab and Haryana States. Dr Pradeep Goel, Registrar, Punjab Veterinary Council briefed the role of council
On this occasion, fifteen alumni of the college were honoured for their distinguished services in different fields to the society. New year calendar and special issue of Vet Alumnus- official magazine of association were also released by the dignitaries.
Former Deans of the college Dr RP Saigal, Dr MS Oberoi, former registrar Dr SK Jand, former Director Extension Education Dr R S Sahota, Joint Director Dr S S Makkar, officers from Animal Husbandry Department Punjab and retired veterinarians graced the occasion. Eminent alumni Dr Jagwinderjit Singh Grewal, Additional Secretary, Social Security, Women and Child Department, Dr Sukhchain Singh, IRS, Dr KS Deol Senior Manager, Nestle also graced the occasion and were honoured during this event.
In the technical seminar, Dr Sandeep Kaswan, Dr AK Singh and Dr JS Hundal deliberated on Goat farming, Pig farming and Balanced feeding of dairy animals. The event culminated with the cultural programme meticulously coordinated by Dr Kewal Arora and Dr C K Singh. Dr JS Hundal , Associate professor proposed the vote of thanks to all.
