DG, ICAR Applauds the contribution of Veterinary University

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education  (DARE) & Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), visited Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana. Dr. Mohapatra along with Dr. Amarjit Singh Nanda, Vice-Chancellor GADVASU and Deans, Directors visited newly established Herbal Garden, New building of College of Dairy Science and Technology, New building of Small Animal Clinic and recently developed mechanized Meat Processing Plant. In the Herbal Garden he showed keen interest about the remedial properties of plants for animal treatment. He also planted sapling of herbal plant 'Sukhchain (Karanj)'. In the Dairy Science College the institute exhibited Milk Chiller Machine, Milk Adulteration Detection Kit and value added products. He inquired about these technologies and suggested that more awareness is required to milk consumers to check the purity of the products. He also encouraged the faculty to promote these technology and milk processing training amongst the farmers.

After that he visited new building of Small Animal Clinic. Experts of different streams explained the facilities of hospital. Dr. Mohapatra interacted with different owners of the pets about the treatment of their animals. Dr. Mohapatra appreciated the health and diagnostic facilities of the hospital provided to the livestock owners of the Punjab and adjoining states. He was visited mechanized meat processing plant also. Dr. Nanda revealed that university has transferred 17 meat and egg related technologies to different entrepreneurs to the tune of Rs. 17 Lakhs. An impressive exhibition of different facilities of the university was also part of the visit. Experts from different departments explained about animal Nutrition, Surgery, Medicine, Gynecology and Zoonotic problems of animals and livestock. Publications of GADVASU were also showcased in the exhibition.

Dr Nanda explained him about various academic programmes, PPP Model, National & International collaborations and other research & extension initiatives undertaken by the University. Dr. Mohapatra applauded the contribution of GADVASU to serve the livestock and farmers.
