Dr. Nigel Caulkett, Head, and Dr. Rebecca Archer, Instructor, in Department of Veterinary Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Calgary visited Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana (GADVASU). During their visit, they had a series of meetings, in which they discussed the logistics of launching clinical student and faculty exchange program between GADVASU and University of Calgary. They also spent time in GADVASU Veterinary Clinics especially doing a few spay/neuter surgeries, a part of Animal Birth Control (ABC) program and appreciated the facilities available with College of Veterinary Science. Also, the visitors gave lectures to the faculty members and students of GADVASU: Dr. Nigel Caulkett on ‘Anesthesia in the wild’ and Dr. Rebecca Archer on ‘From cheap to expensive: What simulator work well for teaching veterinary students’, which were very much liked and appreciated the faculty and students of GADVASU.
During their stay, GADVASU Dean Post Graduate Studies Dr. SK Uppal and Dean Veterinary Science College Dr. Parkash Singh Brar thoroughly discussed ‘Canine Research Centre’ the project awarded to GADVASU by Govt of India. Dr. JPS Gill, Director of Research informed that university of Calgary, Canada and GADVASU will shortly signed MoU for clinical collaboration on area of mutual interest and exchange of students and scientists.
Dr. Amarjit Singh Nanda, Vice Chancellor GADVASU, suggested that besides ABC program, there is vast scope for the Canadian students to have exposure on various livestock diseases and public health issues prevalent in this part of the world.
The Canadian delegates expressed a fruitful and wonderful visit to GADVASU and lauded the efforts of the university in the area of Canine Healthcare.
