A five day training program on “Small Animal Radiography and Ultrasonography” concluded at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. Fifteen field veterinary practitioners /surgeons from 6 states including Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab participated in the training program. Dr. J. Mohindroo, Professor-cum-Head and director of this training, informed that this training was conducted under the aegis of All India Network Program on “Diagnostic imaging and management of surgical conditions in animals (AINP-DIMSCA)” and was sponsored by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, GADVASU has been working as a collaborating center since 2014 and human resource development is an important mandate of this project he added. Dr Mohindroo said that the department is committed to human resource development and till date the department has trained over 400 veterinarians under various training modules.
Dr Vandana Sangwan, coordinator of the training program informed that the course module was designed keeping in mind the basic needs of the general veterinary practitioners and surgeons. The participants were given hands on training in radiographic interpretation and ultrasound examination of abdomen in small animals. Advanced procedures like echocardiography and thoracic ultrasonography were also practiced by the participants she added. In addition the participants were also encouraged to consult literature in the Department and University library and were provided various e-books and reading material.
Dr. SS Singh, Dean Postgraduate studies said that the department has progressed, enormously, during the last two decades in the areas of small and large animal imaging. He further stated that this department is a recognized Centre of Advanced Faculty Training since 1994 by ICAR. He also advised all the participants to practice the techniques learned during this training for the welfare of animals and applauded the extension and clinical activities of the department.
