Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana visited the Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Hatyai, Thailand, as a visiting Professor. The President of PSU, Dr. Niwat Keawpradub warmly welcomed Dr. Singh and reiterated the need for strong academic and research collaborations between the two institutes. Prof. Soottawat Benjakul, Director, International Centre of Excellence in Seafood Science and Innovation (ICE-SSI) showcased the cutting edge research carried out by the centre in the field of seafood utilisation focussing on converting waste to wealth. Prof. Soottawat and Dr. Singh discussed the possibilities of sandwich Master’s degree in Fish Processing Technology under the joint seal of the two universities.
Dr. Inderjeet Singh held meetings, brainstorming sessions and extensive deliberations with the officers of the host university to understand their administrative setup, educational pattern and research programmes so that the best practices may be implemented back in India. He appreciated the Science Park (Extension Centre) - an incubation cum extension training centre of the Thai Varsity, playing a pivotal role in bridging the gaps between academia, industry and the farmers. The Vice-Chancellor also visited the well-equipped Scientific Instrument Department, modern University Library, Asean Corner, Faculty of Natural Resources, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Faculty of Agro-Industry and International Centre of Excellence in Seafood Science and Innovation (ICE-SSI). He lauded the academic excellence attained by the PSU. Dr. Prabjeet Singh, visiting researcher at PSU under IDP-NAHEP, Vety Varsity, Ludhiana and Dr. Avtar Singh, Vice-Director, ICE-SSI Research and International Affairs, PSU also remained present during these meetings and visits. The Vice-Chancellor interacted with four former students of the Vet. University currently pursuing Ph.D. at PSU.
The Vice-Chancellor’s visit witnessed sharing of the wealth of experiences, insights and expertise, and commitment to nurture international academic and research ties and promoting cross-cultural understanding.
