Institutional Development Plan (IDP) Cell, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana organized a guest lecture on 'Entrepreneurial Opportunities for Vets'. Dr. D.V.R. Prakasha Rao, President, Governing Council, National Academy of Veterinary Sciences (India) was the expert speaker. An eminent Scientist turned first generation entrepreneur; Dr Rao has an illustrious career. He is the Chairman and Managing Director of Prakash Foods and Feed Mills (P) Ltd. This company has two manufacturing units, one in Kanchipuram and other in Sholavaram in Tamilnadu, India and apart from sale all over India, the company also exports to UAE, Vietnam and other countries. Prakash Foods and Feed Mills (P) Ltd is the pioneer in protein technology catering to the requirements of poultry industry over the last 35 years.
Dr SPS Ghuman, Dean, College of Veterinary Science and Principal Investigator -IDP welcomed Dr Rao and discussed importance of entrepreneurship amongst young vets. He briefed about IDP project and highlighted that one of the major objectives of said project is entrepreneurship development. Dr Rao shared his journey from a technocrat to entrepreneur with the audience. He mentioned about key components for being an entrepreneur and very elaborately explained opportunities for veterinarians for starting their own venture. He emphasized that the current situation demands one to be self-reliant as there is crunch of government jobs.
Dr Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor GADVASU expressed his gratitude to Dr Rao for his motivational talk and expressed the opinion in consonance with him. He briefed about the initiatives of GADVASU in boosting entrepreneurship culture amongst students, farmers, women and unemployed youth. The event concluded with vote of thanks by Dr S.S. Randhawa, Director of Clinics, GADVASU Ludhiana.
