The Nss wing of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organised blood donation drives during Pashu Palan Mela. The Blood Donation Drive was inaugurated by Dr JPS Gill, Vice Chancellor of the University. He said that blood donation covers several health benefits since the body replenishes lost blood by stimulating the production of new blood cells, which can improve circulation and overall cardiovascular health.
Dr. Archu from Civil Hospital, Jagraon said since the shelf life of collected blood is limited, regular year round donations are needed to maintain a self and resilient transfusion service.
Dr. Nidhi Sharma, Assistant Director Publications and NSS Programme Coordinator informed the NSS unit of organised a poster-making competition on the theme ‘Donate Blood, Save Lives’ NSS volunteers hold posters to motivate farmers to donate blood .
Dr. Narender Kumar and Dr. SS Hassan, NSS Programme Officers added that the NSS Volunteers put up a non-stop ‘chabeel’ for Jal Sewa visitors during the mela.
Dr. Sarvpreet Singh Ghuman, Director Students’ Welfare stated that while promoting the NSS motto, ‘Not Me But You’, the NSS volunteers exemplified their commitment for selfless service.
S. Devinder Singh Lotey, Assistant Director, Department of Youth Services, Ludhiana asserted the role of Red Ribbon Clubs promoting voluntary blood donations and empowering youth as change agents.
A total of 80 units of blood was collected during the Pashu Palan Mela informed S. Satinder Singh Bhandal and S. Manjit Singh from Youth Services Club, Samrala
