12 July 2017 - ATMA picks fishery graduates as Assistant Technology Managers

Fishery graduates from College of Fisheries, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana have been picked up in a recruitment derive by the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) in Punjab, created under the ‘Innovation in Technology Dissemination Component’ of National Agricultural Technology Project (NATP) to address the key constraints faced in the extension system of the country  due to reducing capacity of public extension services, with special reference to region specific demand driven focus.

Dr. Asha Dhawan, Dean, College of Fisheries, revealed that In a recruitment derive in Punjab, ATMA selected 110 (ATMs), including 15 fishery graduates from GADVASU on the basis of merit of State level qualifying test, to serve the agriculture as well as the livestock sector in the State. Dr. A.S. Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU congratulated the students for the achievement and expressed that both agriculture and livestock sectors can only progress if skilled human resource is available to understand farmer’s need and disseminate the required recent technologies through an efficient R & D network, where State Agriculture/Veterinary universities (SAUs) play a significant role. He further added that scientific human resource developed at GADVASU is capable of taking up academic, research and extension assignments not only at State level but also at national and international levels.

Dr. Dhawan conveyed that the College is offering both UG (Bachelor of Fisheries Sc.) and PG (M.F.Sc./Ph.D.) programs in different fields of fisheries (Aquaculture. Fisheries Resource Management, Aquatic Environment) .Fishery graduates/postgraduates have ample scope of employment in various State/National level public/private fisheries education/R &D institutes, including State Fisheries Departments, Fisheries Colleges, State Agricultural/Veterinary Universities (SAUs), and the associated industries (seed industry/hatcheries, feed industry, processing industry, pharmaceutical industry, aquaculture engineering industry etc.). She further added that fishery graduates from GADVASU are well equipped for the assignment they have been picked up by ATMA.
