18 May 2017 - KVK, Barnala organizes Pig Farming training

 Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana's Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Handiaya district Barnala organized a five days vocational training on “Scientific pig farming”. Total 57 farmer, Rural youth and farm women of five districts namely Barnala,Mansa, Bthinda, Moga and Sangrur  participated in this training programme.

Dr.P.S.Tanwar, Associate Director (Training)  Krishi Vigyan Kendra inaugurate the training programme with an introductory address that pig farming in scientific manner is a profitable business because the feed conversion efficiency and prolificacy is much more of swine as compare to other enterprises of livestock sector. He also added that pig has special quality to convert the low quality and waste feed into meat.  He said that value addition of pork has greater opportunity for employment. He also added that pig farming adoption as a component of integrated farming system is very beneficial for higher income of the family.

Dr Surinder  Singh, Asstt. Prof. (Livestock Production) delivered detailed lectures on various aspects of pig farming such as housing requirements and designs for different groups of pig, their nutrients requirements, formulation of balance ration and  feeding managements, nutritional deficiency diseases, maintaince of various records and their benefits, breeding and their managements in swine reproduction, breeding strategies to be adopted to avoid inbreeding.

Dr. Randhir Singh, Asstt. Prof. (Livestock Production) KVK, Mohali discussed about management and prevailing diseases among pigs. Dr. O.P.Malav, Asstt. Prof. Dept. of LPT , GADVASU,Ludhiana shared the importance of processing  and value addition  technique in pork  amongs  the trainees.

Bank officials from SBI explained farmers how to get loan from banks to start the pig farming. An exposure visit was also arranged at  Pig farm, Sanghera  of Dharmender Singh for the trainee.

Dr.P.S.Tanwar praised the trainees that despite extreme hot weather farmers expressed so much interest during the whole training period and motivated them to start their venture & assured that KVK, Handiaya is always on their beck and call to provide technical support in future.
