27 March 2017 - Veterinary Varsity teachers imparted training on value based classroom management skills

 In present scenario, attitude based training with primary focus on skill development should be the aim of teachers rather than simple transmission of knowledge. The views were expressed by Sh. Inderjit Mittal, Master trainer and national facilitator in ethics and values in public governance with the Govt of India. A two day training workshop for sixteen faculty members from different departments of the College of Veterinary Science (COVS), Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana was organized. Sh. Mittal was the resource person of this workshop. He elaborated various topics ranging from qualities of an excellent teacher, embedding ethics and values in learning, shift from learning to relearning, coaching as a tool for teaching etc to reestablishing the missing connect with nature through soul-nurture walks and preparing life balance sheets.

Dr Simrat Sagar Singh, Dean Post graduate studies, GADVASU chaired the valedictory function and stressed on the role the teachers can play in building the future of the country. He said that our society has great respect for teachers and our holy books also give us lesson to teach in a way for holistic growth of society with a selfless spirit. He emphasized that such trainings should be routinely conducted to hone the classroom management skills of teachers. He appreciated the efforts and contributions of the faculty of the College in elevating the standards of education in the university.

Dr Parkash Singh Brar, Dean COVS, said that this type of workshops provide instant and handy information to the teachers regarding latest teaching techniques. Dr. Brar quoted the shloak of Saint Kabir ‘Guru Govind Dou Khare, Kake Lagu Paye, Balihari Guru Apne, Jin  Govind Diya Dikhaye’ and said that we have a great and rich legacy for respect of teachers so we should inculcate more and better values in our teaching. He said that the basic element in the technology of andragogy is the direct involvement of the learner in the process of planning their own learning, with the trainer acting as counselor, guide and resource. The workshop was funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.
